Here   are   some  of  our  design services  that   have   attracted  significant interest from shipowners in the recent months.

1. Shore-To-Ship Power  Retrofit

What We Offer:

• Feasibility Study–  to examine the possibilities of Integration of alternative maritime power  solution  that facilitates  a ship connecting to a port’s electrical  power  grid to power  onboard services, systems and equipment during cargo  handling  operation
• Retrofit Engineering Design– Concept Design, Class approval
• drawings and Detail design for the fully integrated solution.
• On Board Survey– this is supporting (optional) activity for the projects and it includes survey  on-site  and 3D Laser  scanning of the affected areas for more precise integration, relevant to the real situation  on board.

Investing   in  Shore-To-Ship Power   Retrofit  reduces fuel  consumption and  harmful emissions by allowing vessels to switch off their engines while berthed and  connect to an  onshore power  supply.  This not only ensures compliance with IMO environmental regulations but also  lowers operational costs and improves air quality in port areas.

Note: All the big ports  in Europe are  required to supply  shore power  to vessels by 31st of  December 2025  following the  adopted by the  European Union Council  alternative fuels infrastructure regulation (AFIR).

2. Wind Assisted Propulsion Systems Retrofit (WAPS)

IHB  Shipdesign  offers  a   range  of   services  to   support  shipowners, operators, and  shipyards in adopting wind-assisted propulsion  technologies. These services include:

Complete custom sail solution:

• Feasibility Study  –Investigating the possibilities of installing Sails on board  of a vessel to gain positive  effect on the fuel consumption and reduction of emissions.
• Basic Design and Class approval drawings of the Retrofit
• Fabrication and Installation Design

Note:  One  of the  most  important  benefit  of installing  Wing  Sails or Rotor  Sails in

2025,  regarding regulations, is compliance with stricter  environmental standards, such  as IMO’s Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) and Energy  Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI).

3. Dual Fuel Implementation

By adopting dual-fuel  technology, maritime  industry  can  transition  towards cleaner energy sources while maintaining the  ability to use  traditional  fuels when necessary.

• Study  that includes: Investigation of the possibilities to incorporate and install all the additional  systems, equipment and tanks, according to the main engine maker  dual fuel refit concept and the operation specifics of the vessel
• Basic and Detail Design: Arrangement of new equipment tanks, Assessment of additional  risks, Ship documentation update

Note:   Dual  Fuel  Implementation  allows  ships   to  switch  between fuels  based  on availability, cost,  and  environmental regulations. The key benefits of dual-fuel implementation include  lower  CO₂  emissions, compliance with stricter  environmental standards and improved  fuel economy.

4. Vessel Conversions/Upgrade
