Another interesting project completed

We’ve been asked to perform a conversion of Ballast tanks to Fresh water tanks on an Offshore Supply Vessel.

This is an interesting project whereas the Owner has to tackle the challenge of the requirements of The International Ballast Water Convention (IBWC). In this particular case, the most beneficial decision for the Owner is to perform a conversion of the ballast tanks to fresh water tanks. The IBWC does not apply to ships not constructed to carry ballast water. If the ballast water tanks are converted to freshwater tanks and sealed off from the overboard vales and sea chests of the ship, the vessel will not be considered as a boat that carries ballast water and thus is not subject to the IBWC.

It is important to mention that such modification is suitable for vessels that operate in one water area and are designed with double-purposed tanks.

The scope of our work included:

  • Updated tank plan
  • Updated drawing of ballast water and fresh water system
  • Updated stability booklet
